Experiential LearninG
Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience and then reflecting on the experience of doing. There are a variety of experiences that students can do to learn more about career fields and occupations. Experiential learning can include a work-based learning at an internship position, doing a job shadow, hearing a guest presenter describe his/her career pathway, attending a career fair, completing a service learning project, and visiting a college campus. Tours
Tours engage students to explore the knowledge and skills of different occupations and develop basic awareness of employability skills in a number of different departments or employers, and career fields. Service Learning Service learning is a way of teaching and learning that engages all learners in hands-on projects in the community to meet learning objectives and mutually benefit both the student as well as strengthen communities. Job Shadowing Job Shadowing is a short-term experience that is intended to help students identify a career field. Students make brief worksite visits to spend time with individual workers learning what knowledge, skills and education their jobs entail. Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurship provides students with a model that demonstrate initiative, innovation, and ownership to organize and operate their own businesses as a part of course requirements. Mentorship A professional relationship in which an experienced person (mentor) the student in developing skills and knowledge that will enhance the person’s professional and personal growth. For youth, mentoring can provide positive role models and help with career exploration. |
