Student EligibilitY
A transition aged student may be eligible for the Next STEP Transition Program with the following:
- There is a proven need in the transition areas of Employment and/or Daily Living Skills according to the transition assessment(s).
- Student is working toward competitive employment.
- Student is able to independently perform adaptive behaviors.
Referral Process
- A completed referral form filled out by special education case manager and sent to the Transition Coordinator. Referral must be made through the district of residence
- Next STEP personnel review the referral application and determine placement options.
- The Transition Coordinator will attend the student's current IEP meeting to discuss with the team the post-secondary plans for the individual student and eligibility of attending the transition program.
- All potential transition students and their families are encouraged to visit the Next STEP site.
- Visits are meant to educate students, families, and referring district personnel about the program.
